Apparently, he had brain cancer and died on the 7th. His family made the announcement today.

No freaking way. He’s up there with Carter Beauford, Lars Ulrich, and Max Weinberg in my personal drummer hall of fame. Wow...
Have some Tom Sawyer, which was some of his best work...damn near upstaged the rest of the band:

Rush is one of my all time favourite bands... really sad. Their music has gotten me through both bad and good. He’ll always remain one of the legends of rock drumming.

Well Shit! I saw them a few times when they got back together in the early 00s after his wife and daughter died and they were amazing.
He still rocked those drums like he was the god of rhythm.

I was fortunate enough to see them twice at the same festival, once for their Moving Pictures anniversary tour and a year or two later for their Clockwork Angels tour.
It’s a bit of a shock to think that Rush will never be whole again.

This is very depressing news!
I’ m proud to say that I had the honour of seeing Rush live about 10 years ago . He was an absolute animal on the drums, and that show remains the best live performance I have ever seen.

My 13 yearold self spent hours and hours behind the kit with headphones on listening to Peart and McBrain and Ulrich and Aldridge playing that stuff over and over.

Holy crap, Rush has been my favorite band for decades. I just met Geddy Lee and bought His book. I’m glad I made it to a lot of shows. Wow, this is sad.

Confession time: I saw Rush live about, oh, 30 years ago, because some friends of mine were going.
I was bored to tears. Big fancy light show didn’t interest me . Wandered around a bit, then left early.
Sorry to let y’all down. RIP Neil.

I caught the 2112 tour (yes, I’m old) and saw them 16 times over the years. Neil had a lot of personal setbacks, very sorry to hear he passed. RIP

Y es, what a sad day for such a driven talent. I’m thankful that he got his shot and we got to enjoy his talent, and we di dn’ t miss out due to him keeping his job at the tractor parts store.

He pretty much said that in his book “Ghost Rider”
The irony/fuckedupness of his passing like this is not at all lost on me.

Both motorbikes and pedal bikes.
He would regularly play epic concerts for hours, the likes of which would turn probably any of us to space dust, catch a few hours sleep on the bus, then either ride his motorcycle or fucking PEDAL his way to the next gig.
Thankfully, he wrote books about this because its the sort of thing you can’t believe a human is possible of. And maybe he wasn’t human. Maybe he was really sent from a higher level of conciousness from the year 2112 to help steer us out of the limelight and show us how to fly by night.
And maybe he just had enough.
Also, dude fucked rocked a BMW Z8 and put probably more miles on it than any other owner of one
so say what you will about his lyrics but the man (alien) had TASTE.
